Event description:
Aelita, also known as Aelita: Queen of Mars, is a silent 1924 film directed by Yakov Protazanov. Although the main focus of the story is the daily lives of a small group of people during the post-war Soviet Union, the enduring importance of the film comes from its early science fiction elements.
The screening is part of the Red Century: Russian Revolution on Film series & the “Spaced Out: Outer Space and Altered States” series by the Yale Film Colloquium.
Film will be presented with live musical accompaniment by world-famous silent film musicians Donald Sosin and Joanna Seaton with special guest, the renowned violinist/composer Alicia Svigals.
